about

‘When You’re Gone’ is guitarist Richard Clare’s contribution to ‘Songs of Loss and Resistance’, and one of two songs on the album that have not previously been released as online singles. It was recorded in January 2024, in the last recording session for the album.

lyrics

When You’re Gone (Richard Clare)

I need a cage to escape from
I need a chain to feel free

When you're gone will you miss me?
When you're gone will we be free?

Chorus 1

When you come back again tell me where I went wrong
Fighting was never my strong point, running was easier for me

Just need a sign, then we'll escape
It never came, now it's too late

I'll never know because you never said yes
The final show will always be our own

Chorus 2

In the sun among the graves and our shades hide the pain
Suddenly you smile and remove them, I smile and remove them too

I need a cage to escape from
I need a chain to feel free

When you're gone will you miss me?
When you're gone will we be free?

Line-up:

Richard Clare (lead vocals, guitar)
Andy Worthington (backing vocals)
