about

The second eco-song on the album, ‘This Time We Win’ was recorded in December 2019 and initially released as an online single on Earth Day in 2020 (April 22), during the first Covid lockdown.

It’s one of three songs on the album that features our producer Charlie Hart, who played electric piano on it, and is another example of Andy’s determination to address the climate crisis through songs that, while fully reflecting the gravity of the man-made crisis, also offer hope — if enough people can be persuaded to take unprecedented action to dismantle our suicidal global capitalist system.

lyrics

This Time We Win (Andy Worthington)
with Charlie Hart

We were warned 50 years ago that our way of life was unsustainable
We weren’t listening then, are we listening now?
Wake up! Scientists are certain — ten years to avoid annihilation
Ten years to bring this system down

Chorus

Woy-oy-yoy-yoy This time we win
We’ve run out of options, we gotta win
Woy-oy-yoy-yoy Temperatures getting higher
We’re running out of time to put out the fire

We agreed in 1992 what we were gonna do
But as Greta Thunberg says they were only fine words
Fine words followed by no action is deceit and distraction
Now the youth are rising up and we’re with them all the way

Chorus

Woy-oy-yoy-yoy This time we win
We’ve run out of options, we gotta win
Woy-oy-yoy-yoy Flood waters rise
We’ll soon be running out of land on which to survive

Line-up:

Andy Worthington (lead vocals, guitar)
Richard Clare (guitar, backing vocals)
Bren Horstead (drums and percussion)
Paul Rooke (bass)
Charlie Hart (electric piano)
