about

This song, written by guitarist Richard Clare, is about Pussy Riot, politicized performance artists from Russia, who use punk music to get across their messages, which have involved feminism, LGBT rights and the corruption of Vladimir Putin.
Richard wrote it after reading an interview with Nadya Tolokonnikova, one of three members of Pussy Riot imprisoned for 21 months after performing a 'Punk Prayer' in 2012 inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, aimed at the church’s support for Putin during his election campaign.
Richard says the song was “inspired by an interview with Nadya about her time in a gulag and her aims and feelings after release.”

lyrics

She's Back (Richard Clare)

She's back from the dark night
She's been away too long
She's out of the twilight
Eternal winter of frozen promises and faint regrets

They gave her two years' hard labour
For a prayer against Vladimir
Now she's out and she's talking
Which the internet misogynists hate ... hate

Chorus

She's got a purpose, a reason to carry on (x4)

She thinks she's winning the long fight
With the authorities
Her head has been so tight
She's heard the whispers, the guards are waiting

Chorus (repeat)

Repeat 1st verse

Chorus (repeat)
